Let's Read a Good Book.......A Sweet Mess by Jayce Lee

This was the first book I had read by this author so I can't judge based on past books.  This book ( A Sweet Mess) by Jayci Lee is a fairy tale for adults.  If you enjoy the standard Hallmark  movie you will enjoy this book.    I didn't feel any real connection to the characters and didn't miss them when I had finished.      The characters have no depth and the story is superficial but put together it was enjoyable.   It was very cute and  a quick, easy and entertaining read perfect for travel or a relaxing bubble bath.

 If you like to get your emotions involved this book will do it. Everything from a sweet 12 yr old in jail through Christmas to a kind man accused of a murder he did not commit.   This is a series I love and always anticipate the next book to come.

Let's Read a Good Book.....Summer at Firefly Beach

 

 Summer at Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale

I wanted to relax and enjoy instead I found this a stressful read.

The story  starts with a big secret,  I find that stressful and I hate that.   The whole "I know better and want to save everyone else  from potential hurt" has been done many times and we have all seen that it never ends well.   This book is also filled with grief. Favorite aunt, beloved wife is dead when the book starts, with a dead girl friend, brothers that have not spoke in 50 years and a divorce thrown in. 

I found characters not developed and a lot more pages spent on snapping pictures and planning furniture than on people.  It seemed people got skipped over for secrets and snapshots.

Even though you know how it will end, pick it up and take it to the beach you will be left with a "feel good" ending.

Let's read a good book...........On Ocean Boulevard

           There is nothing more exciting than the next book in a series you love and On Ocean Boulevard was that book for me.  From the first page, On Ocean Boulevard was  revisiting  old friends  in a place I love to spend time.  This is book six   of the Beach House series so I was excited to catch up with everyone again and see that turtle season has started along the South Carolina coastline. The first books in this series served to educate us on the beloved  loggerhead turtles  where this book spent more time on  environmental issues and I missed the turtles in this book,  they felt like more of a back drop.              In this book  we spend more time with the next generation and also prepare to say goodbye to a member of that original group.      I was surprised to learn Palmer ( who I never care for ) had sold the old family home in Charleston and moved to the beach and also that Cara had allowed him to build a house on one of the precious empty lots beside her beloved Primrose Cottage on the Isle of Palms .   So we have beach,  romance, beautiful locations,  and old friends what could be more enjoyable than that?   Thank you  Mary Alice Monroe  for another great book and for bringing back our old friends.

Mary Key Andrews is one of my favorite authors and this one did not disappoint !  She strayed a little father south in this one,  all the way down to Florida.  Hometown girl returns home with her tail between her legs, out of a job, no home, no boyfriend then finds herself engulfed in secrets, gossip, and the biggest news story of her career.   Characters you will love,  this is a great summer read that you will not want to put down.      I just reviewed Hello, Summer by Mary Kay Andrews. #NetGalley  [NetGalley URL]      #Mary Kay Andrews

Let's read a good book....The Banty House

The best feel good book I have read in a long time !!!  It will grab you on the first page and not let you go even after you finish.   Three old sisters, Kate, Betsy, and Connie, living in an old brothel, making moonshine, raising weed and taking care of every misfit they come across. Throw in a young pregnant unwed mother and a ex-solder and you have a wonderful book.  Reading this book is like taking a vacation and it will make you want to live in Rooster Texas and be part of their clan !!

Let's read a good book........Sugar and Vice

               I can't believe how much I enjoyed this book.  This is an author I was not familiar with ( Eve Calder ) but I can't wait to read again.  Characters to love, location you will  want to visit, and enough mystery to keep you turning pages.  Two dead bodies, one ancient one resent, intertwined with enticing cookies and friendly neighbors.  This is a delightful cozy mystery perfect for vacation or curling up at home.   Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. #SugarandVice
